Pantomime

Haven't posted anything on here in... years? Yikes. I just got my hands on some of Aaron Blaise's courses, and wanted somewhere to catalogue my forays into hand drawn animation. Starting with a pantomime.

It was quite the undertaking. One big thing I've taken away from this is the need to slow down and make sure those inbetweens are more than just vague shapes. Might not be too much wrong with a messy drawing but I think developing some patience will just pay off in the long run.

Todd Ramsay Visit

Last week Todd Ramsay came to the school to discuss with the 2D/3D animation students his career and the progression of his company, Yeti Farm Creative. Due to Covid our year hasn't gotten to visit the studio, but a lot of us our optimistic that this could change in the near future.

Todd spoke to us about his less than linear path towards animation and the tribulations he went through to make it to where he is today; he was honest about mistakes he may have made with coworkers and had a clear understanding of what helped push him to where he was today. He was honest with us about the unfortunate parts of the industry; he made it clear that not everyone manages to work their way up the ladder, and not everyone gets to have their own projects made and put out into the world. It is a good reminder to not get too ahead in one's mind.

While his company is mainly 2D,  there was still plenty to learn about the industry regardless of whether one intends to 2D or 3D animate. The company likes to hire CATO grads. but given how small the company's foray into 3D has been thus far, I don't think there's much to consider there for myself as I am a 3D student, but I have friends in the 2D program and am definitely excited for them.

It was especially encouraging to see how the school tries so hard to get people who currently work in the industry to come speak with us. It makes me hopeful we will get to see some 3D animators - maybe who even work in videogames if we're especially lucky - come to speak to us as well.

Who am I?

My name is Brianna Foubert. I'm a long time artist and brand new student to the Centre for Arts and Technology. I am a student of 3D animation and will be posting on this blog my animation progress and art.
